10 “Kinda Awkward” Live Gigs

10. Genesis founder Peter Gabriel dressed as “Britannia” singing “Dancing with the Moonlit Knight” in 1973, complete with reverse Mohawk. This performance gets spot #10 because it’s quite bizarro at first; but then when he starts singing… well, he’s Peter Gabriel.

9. Gary Glitter, live at Sheffield Arena, 1991. This makes me uncomfortable on so many levels.

8. Joe Cocker, live at Montreux Jazz Festival, 1987. Joe, you are so beautiful to me, but you’re scaring me a little here.

7. Jethro Tull, live at Golders Green Hippodrome, 1977. Ian Anderson is arguably one of the most entertaining frontmen of all time. Here, he reminds me a little of a woodland creature.

6. Gary Numan performs “Down in the Park” live in 1991. This is just hilarious.

5. Mud performing live on “Tops of the Pops” in 1974. What’s up with the dance moves?

4. Alice Cooper, live in Detroit in 1971, singing “Is it my Body,” pulls off his shimmery onesie, striptease-style, to reveal black tights and something resembling a leotard.

3. George Clinton performing live in Dublin… and… dude in a diaper; do I really have to say anything else?

2. Julian Cope has a run in with a drunken heckler at Gloucester Music Festival in 2007. I’m mostly uncomfortable… for him.

1. During the opening song of the concert at Le Palace, Paris, 1982, XTC frontman Andy Partridge drops his guitar and walks off stage, never to return. Not just awkward, but a sad day for XTC fans.
